Have toothaches, jaw pain, bleeding gums or other oral health concerns? Kong Dental strives to provide affordable, accessible and comprehensive treatment for your dental conditions.
Professional cleanings through scaling & polishing enable us to clean out areas where flossing and brushing are unable to reach. This is important in a thorough removal of calculus / tartar buildups.
We will assess the health of your tooth-supporting bones by taking dental radiographs, as well as checking the gum pocket level. We will note down any specific area that is less than 4mm as these are the areas which may require further treatments such as root planning / surgical therapy.
Scaling and Root planning are the careful cleaning of root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets, and to even out the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins. Anaesthesia will be offered to patients with deep gum pockets or patients with a low threshold of pain.
Dental fillings would be required if tooth decay or a chipped tooth is present. Decay will be removed and filled to restore the tooth’s original function.
Dental materials we choose are of great quality, which contributes to the ability of our dental fillings to withstand chewing forces, that's why they have better durability.
Types of fillings:
— Porcelain Fillings — a tooth-coloured filling which looks natural and generally lasts longer than silver fillings.
— Amalgam Fillings — a silver-coloured filling used for cavities. They are a mix of metals such as mercury, silver, copper and tin.
— Composite fillings — a tooth-coloured filling which looks and feels natural to the patient. However, composites tend to wear out sooner than silver fillings in larger cavities, although they hold up as well in small cavities.

At times, dentists will prescribe antibiotics and mouth rinse that serve as an adjunct to scaling and root planning.
In severe cases, the patient may require a gum specialist to perform flap debridement (to fold back the gum tissue so as to remove the disease-causing bacteria) before securing the tissue into place. In some cases, irregular surfaces of the damaged bones are also smoothened to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria can hide. This would promote the recovery of gum tissues to aid the re-attachment of gum tissues to healthy bones.
Loosing teeth during pregnancy is a myth but oral examinations would be essential because the surge in pregnancy hormones could cause pregnant patients to be more prone to gingivitis and subsequently, periodontitis.
At Kong Dental Surgery, treatments would be used in tandem with review visits to monitor the progress of the patients. Visits and expertise from gum specialists could be arranged when necessary. Remember, a healthy diet, work-life balance, and giving up unhealthy habits such as smoking will also help to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth
In Singapore, most people don't see a dentist on a regular basis. We only go when we have a problem, also known as "crisis treatment". While we may feel that we're saving money, these treatments often cost more, because many dental problems are symptom-free until they reach advanced stages.
Most tooth decays don't hurt until they get close to the nerve of the tooth, and we commonly see patients with a huge cavity who have never felt a thing. Our dentists can usually detect a cavity 3-4 years before it develops any symptoms. This early detection can help you prevent root canal treatment, and save you a lot of pain and money.
We offer same day appointments for all pain and emergency cases, including wisdom tooth extractions. Please contact us to book your appointment.
You can use Medisave for a variety of Dental procedures, such as tooth extractions, and dental surgery. Contact our clinic to find out more about Dental Medisave claims!
It is important to see your dentist as soon as possible if your gums begin to bleed. Usually, bleeding gums is a symptom of the onset of periodontal disease or gingivitis.
Often people respond to bleeding gums the wrong way and stop brushing as frequently and effectively in fear of painful or further bleeding. But in fact, brushing could help reduce the inflammation in our gums.
More importantly, you should see your dentist to have a periodontal screening in order to determine the level of disease present and the best treatment course to pursue.
It is also worth noting that chronic dental pain and discomfort are obvious signs of a problem. Over-the-counter drugs may provide some temporary relief, but these medications usually only mask the symptoms and should only be taken on a temporary basis.
