Dr Tan Hui Peng graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery. After graduation, she has had much experience in many areas of dentistry working in the public sector. She provided dental care to patients from all ages and demographics, including children as young as 2 years old, elderly patients, and special needs patients in the polyclinic and Health Promotion Board (HPB). Subsequently, she worked in the National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore (NUCOHS) and National Dental Centre (NDC), providing advanced dental care such as crowns, dentures and root canal treatments. Having such diverse work experience has expanded her skills and knowledge, as well as given her the opportunity to work alongside specialists of different disciplines and therefore gain valuable insight.
Apart from work, she also volunteered with Healthserve, attending to the dental needs of migrant workers in dormitories. She has also participated in oral health campaigns where she performed dental screenings and provided oral health education to the general public.
She is committed to providing holistic dental treatment as well as raising oral health awareness. She actively strives to build rapport with patients as she recognises that that is the cornerstone of a good dentist-patient relationship that ensures dental health and proper, timely treatment. She believes that this is a collaborative relationship and places great emphasis on communication, so that the patient and dentist can work together to achieve a beautiful and functional smile. She also hopes that through showing compassion and patience, she is able to soothe patients who have had prior bad experiences or have dental anxiety.
Dr Tan has also attended several courses, ranging from aesthetic dentistry to root canal treatment to orthodontics, so as to further increase her breadth and depth of knowledge and skills to provide the best care possible. She is also a member of the Singapore Dental Association (SDA) and College of General Dental Practitioners (CGDP) where she attends seminars and courses on a regular basis.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones. She also enjoys arts and crafts, and takes on small projects like painting, embroidery and crocheting to keep her fingers moving.
