Preventive Treatment

Adequate oral care would improve overall health by reducing the risk of dental diseases, as well as providing treatment for already-present gum diseases. Professional cleaning and scaling are essential in the development of strong teeth and the maintenance of healthy gums. Be consistent and get brighter teeth today in just 30 minutes.

1) Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings

Our services enable us to clean areas where flossing and brushing are unable to reach, allowing us to remove the buildup of calculus / tartar.

2) X- rays and periodontal charting

We will assess the health of your tooth-supporting bones by taking dental radiographs, as well as checking the gum pocket level. We will note down any specific area that is less than 4mm as these are the areas which may require more aggressive treatments such as root planning / surgical therapy.

3) Treatment options– Scaling and Root planning

Scaling and Root planning are the careful cleaning of root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets, and to even out the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins. Anaesthesia will be offered to patients with deep gum pockets or patients with a low threshold of pain.

4) Medication

At times, dentists will prescribe antibiotics and mouth rinse that serve as an adjunct to scaling and root planning.

5) Surgery

In severe cases, the patient may require a gum specialist to perform flap debridement (to fold back the gum tissue so as to remove the disease-causing bacteria) before securing the tissue into place. In some cases, irregular surfaces of the damaged bones are also smoothened to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria’s can hide. This would promote the recovery of gum tissues to aid the re-attachment of gum tissues to healthy bones.

6) Special Cases

Loosing teeth during pregnancy is a myth but oral examinations would be essential because the surge in pregnancy hormones could cause pregnant patients to be more prone to gingivitis and subsequently, periodontitis.

7) Review visits

At Kong Dental Surgery, treatments would be used in tandem with review visits to monitor the progress of the patients. Visits and expertise from gum specialists will be arranged whenever necessary. Remember, a healthy diet, work-life balance, and giving up unhealthy habits such as smoking will also help to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth.
